Curly hair care and styling

Curls without definition, hair that feels dry and straw-like. You use numerous products, but nothing seems to work: Do you know that feeling?

As a hair expert and curl specialist, customers often come to me with the same problem: "My curls are exhausting!"
The truth is: there is no such thing as "difficult" hair.
There is only hair that is not properly understood.

Whether you already have a curling routine or are still searching for one.
Here you will find proven tips and selected products
for healthy and defined dream curls.

Before

Afterwards

The right curl routine can make the difference between "dry and brittle" and "defined and shiny".
In the pictures, you can see a long-time client of mine. She came to my salon for the first time with damaged hair. Due to regular coloring and improper care, she felt uncomfortable with her curls. Today, she wears her curls with pride, and they have become a part of her.

It is important to understand your hair and find the right products and routine for the needs of your curls.

5 tips to help you love your
curls again

  • How do you dry your curls? Curls don't like friction! If you dry your hair with a terry cloth towel after washing it, the rough texture can roughen your hair and scalp and lead to frizz or dandruff. Instead, use a microfiber towel and gently squeeze out the moisture. This protects the structure of your hair before you even start styling it.

Bonus: An old cotton shirt is great for gently drying your curls.

  • Are your curls dry and straw-like? Curls need moisture. Use moisturizing shampoo with argan oil for supple curls and intensive moisturizing masks.

Extra: If your hair structure is damaged, I recommend using a curl shampoo with shea butter and silk proteins, which can strengthen your curls from within.

  • What order do you use for your products?Curls can use a number of different styling and care products. It is important that you layer the products correctly. Remember:
    Leave-in → Cream → Gel

This ensures that the products can work to their full potential.

Extra: For severely damaged hair or hair that has been dyed many times, it is better to use a curl spray instead of curl gel.

  • How defined are your curls? For more definition, I recommend applying styling products to soaking wet hair (wet styling). Then "scrunch" the product into your hair, gently kneading it from the bottom up toward the scalp to define the natural curl structure.

Extra: For maximum definition, twist individual strands around your finger directly with the and work in gel to fix the shape. Once dry, carefully knead out the gel cast (scrunch out the crunch).

  • How long do your curls last? Throughout the day, your curls can slowly lose their curl structure and volume. To give your curls a little refresh, fill a spray bottle with a little water and leave-in conditioner and reshape individual strands.

Extra: Liebevoll offers Liebevoll curl spray specifically for curls, which you can easily incorporate into your curl routine.

The right products for your curls

For curly hair, it is worth using specific care products. The key is to choose ingredients that provide moisture and support the natural structure of the curls, rather than weighing them down or drying them out.

You should avoid these ingredients:

Choose sulfate-free shampoos:
Sulfates create a lot of lather, but they also strip the hair of important moisture.
Curls are particularly sensitive to this and quickly become dry or brittle. Mild cleansing alternatives are the better choice here.

Critically examine water-insoluble silicones:
They make the hair appear smooth and supple in the short term, but form a film around the hair structure.
This makes it more difficult for care ingredients to penetrate, and the hair becomes weighed down and dry in the long term.

Avoid drying alcohols:
Certain alcohols can dehydrate hair in the long term. The result is dull, frizzy curls.
Checking the list of ingredients helps you avoid such ingredients.
